‘The Seevent Stars’ Race for Life

JustGiving - Sponsor me now!
We have all experienced loss in our life at some time or another, and most of us would have experienced the loss through cancer.
In the UK today there are an estimated 2.5 million people who have been diagnosed with cancer, which is an increase of almost half a million in comparison to the previous five years. If we continue to increase at this rate by 2030 four million people could be living with this horrendous disease. A scary thought!!  however the proportion of people living longer after cancer is increasing, and the number of people alive and surviving more than 5 years from initial diagnosis is predicted to more than double between 2010 and 2030 to 2.7 million.
Although research and development has come along way in treating this disease it takes a huge amount of funding, some of which we can help with? we can all play our part, whether we ride a bike for miles, climb a mountain, bake a cake or like ‘The Seevent Stars’ enter the Race for Life……or you can provide support in the way of a donation and here’s your chance!! so just click on the donate button below to pledge anything from a £1 to £100 its upto you.

Fit for the future

Understanding your business is crucial to making it successful, but does it stop there?

Improving your working environment is also a key factor in your businesses success, Morale (also known as esprit de corps) is the capacity of a group’s members to maintain belief in an institution or goal, particularly in the face of opposition or hardship. In business this is defined as job satisfaction, outlook, and feelings of well being within the workplace, which in turn has been proven to have a direct effect on productivity.

Seevent is no exception and has been working hard over the past six months to ensure a good working environment at its premises in Lancing, West Sussex. Last week seeing the erection of the new signage, which I hope you agree is looking great? but lets not forget its not all about bricks and mortar and look after our Morale……………

Sussex Manufacturing

Living and working in Sussex has many rewards, beautiful beaches, The Downs National Park, mostly good weather and a thriving manufacturing industry.

We all know that the North has always held the coveted title for manufacturing, however businesses have started to migrate to other parts of the UK, and Sussex is proud to play its part!! as such BBC Radio Sussex is running a series of interviews this week to celebrate Sussex’s manufacturing history, and we have been lucky enough to have been chosen, which is both very exciting and a little nerve racking!!

Seevent Plastics Ltd was starting in 1987 in Lancing, West Sussex and has steadily grown to become one of the UK’s leading Plastic Bag Manufacturers. We are very proud of our history and our part in Sussex’s success. Manufacturing contributes £6.7tr to the global economy, with the UK currently the 11th largest manufacturing nation in the world. Making up 11% of UK GVA and 54% of UK exports and directly employing 2.6 million people. The plastics industry specifically employs 180,000 people across 7,500 companies and produces 2.5m tonnes of plastics materials annually, which yields an average turnover of  £19bn.

Therefore isn’t it time to celebrate our successes and showcase our business?

Spring Clean your Business

Now that Christmas is a distant memory and cupids bow has been put away for another year we can look forward to the promise of springtime…..

The anticipation of our days getting longer and warmer, the excitement of a fresh start to rejuvenate, renew and regrow, we especially  look forward to this time of the year. And as we all know its generally a time for ‘Spring Cleaning’, a yearly act of cleaning a house from top to bottom which takes place in the first warm days of the year typically in spring, hence the name. However it has also come to be synonymous with any kind of heavy duty cleaning or organizing enterprise. A person who gets their affairs in order before an audit or inspection could be said to be doing some spring cleaning.

Therefore although in business we don’t always have time, lets make some time for a ‘Spring Clean’, rejuvenate your website, refresh your branding, grow your business because no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow…….

To Resolve or not to Resolve……

New Year and traditionally the time for making a Resolution!! did you make any? if so how many have you broken?

A survey of 2,000 people carried out in 2014 showed that 42% of participants set themselves a New Years’ Resolution, however, most failed. In fact, the study showed that almost two in three people didn’t succeed, but interestingly out of those who did achieve their resolutions three in four believed that sharing their goals, on a social networking site helped.

Although Social Media has revolutionised our ability to help and communicate let’s not lose the personal touch. For all of us out there that have failed miserably in keeping to our resolutions there is still hope !! we can all resolve to help each other, whether it’s checking on our elderly neighbours,  putting an extra tin in the food banks, helping our friends count calories, or like one of our customers, Lawsons, who are donating money for each bag sold to the MacMillan Appeal, we can all keep some promises!!!

‘Resolve to renew all your old resolves

and add a few that are new

Resolve to keep them as long as you can

what more can a poor man do…’

Bah, humbug !!!

We all know the saying Bah humbug!! which was popularised by the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, his miserly ways and the three visiting ghosts,  past, present and future…

Inspired by his own childhood and frequent walks through the lowly parts of London town , Charles Dickens wrote ‘ A Christmas Carol’ in just six weeks!! It was released on 19 December and by Christmas Eve it had sold out of the initial print run of 6,000 copies!!!   Still a popular Christmas Story today even retold in films and Theatre, reminding us that in the midst of self-doubt and confusion, a man sometimes does his best work.

Christmas Opening Hours:

Monday 22 December – Open as usual

Tuesday 23 December – Open as usual

Charity Dinner

Trick or Treat ?  October has arrived with a bang !!!  the leaves have changed from the summer greens to the autumnal hues of red and gold and the streets were alive or Dead ? with ghosts, witches and glowing pumpkins. However it was also the month GRS and Lafarge Tarmac hosted a charity dinner for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

What a Treat !! Neil and Tony were lucky enough to attend the glittering event on behalf of Seevent, inviting two of our customers, Harvey of Gill Aggregates and Steve of Builder Depot, to join them at The Brewery, London on October 15. The evening was dedicated to raising funds to construct the ‘Get Busy Living! Centre’, a purpose built headquarters for the foundation to inspire and support young people with serious injuries through sport. Hosted by the wonderful James Corden and a capacity cr0wd the evening was a resounding success raising over £100,000 on the night!!!!!

If you would like any more information on the Matt Hampson Foundation you can visit the website at or follow them on Twitter @hambofoundation.

Media Marketing

“Technology” is often seen as a dirty word, forcing companies to update manufacturing equipment and processes to ‘keep up with the Jones’s’. However some advances,  such as those in communication,  have helped the small business to  SHOUT!!! about their services and products too (and as loudly as ‘the Jones’s’).

Although Websites are the most obvious choice for advertising your business, as customers (and people) most of us have also used social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest for personal use,  but have not considered these avenues to increase our business coverage. In a recent survey of businesses, which use social media, 92% of business owners indicated that it is an important part of their business and are continuing to re-allocate budgets away from traditional methods of advertising towards social media and other inbound marketing strategies.

In a recent campaign launched by Saatchi,  using micro-video platforms like Vine or Instagram, they had 50,000 likes and 26,000 reviews within the first 5 days of release, so is it time for businesses to get tweeting or Pinning?? I think so….. lets not waste the opportunities that ‘Technology’ exacts upon us and embrace our social side.

The Changing Seasons

We’ve enjoyed an unusually long summer season this year with average temperatures around 22° C and although this has been good for all our gardens, social events and suntans it has a direct impact on sales for both our packers and distributors.

With the uncharacteristic temperatures it has proven good news for the aggregate, DIY and building trades who have continued to pack and sell past the usual wind down period,  however this news may not be so welcome for the coal and alternative fuel industries who may find the winter season cut short?

We have all seen changes to our environment over the last decade, which affects all our lifestyles and livelihoods that’s why Seevent are committed to looking into ways to reduce our impact on this precious resource. Part of those plans include reducing wastage and using more sustainable resources. Currently we recycle 100% of any waste produced at site and we are also looking into variants to offer our customers  a Green bag !!  so watch this space……………………………….
